Kokche News Agency reports that in the midst of the forced repatriation of Afghan refugees from Iran, a mother at the border crossing in Islamqal’a, Herat, successfully delivered a baby girl at a UNICEF emergency clinic.
The clinic announced on Friday, July 4, that the newborn was born healthy and in good condition.
This event occurred during a period of intense overcrowding and challenging conditions faced by returning migrants and is described by aid agencies as “a point of hope amidst the crisis.”
The incident underscores the vulnerable situation of many refugees—especially women, children, pregnant women, and elderly who are in urgent need of healthcare, food, and shelter.
Daily, large numbers of Afghan migrants, particularly women and children, enter Afghanistan from Iran, facing risks and shortages.
Humanitarian organizations emphasize that these vulnerable groups are at high risk of suffering injuries and in need of immediate assistance due to the ongoing return process.
