Tragedy in Herat: Targeted Attack on Shia Pilgrims Claims 20 Lives
Gunmen executed a brutal sectarian massacre in Herat's Injil district, separating and shooting men before firing on fleeing women and children at a local shrine.

Kokcha News Agency — A horrific targeted attack on Shia pilgrims in the Injil district of Herat, Afghanistan, has left at least 20 people dead, including women and children.
The massacre occurred on Friday, April 10 (Hamal 21), at the Sayed Mohammad Agha shrine in the Dahmari area.
According to harrowing eyewitness accounts, armed assailants first separated the men from the group and executed them in front of their families. When women attempted to escape the carnage, the gunmen opened fire on them as well.
Local sources describe the scene as a “human tragedy,” with Herat Regional Hospital struggling to manage the influx of casualties.
The Dahmari area is a predominantly Shia-populated region that has long dealt with security threats. While no group has officially claimed responsibility, the nature of the assault mirrors previous sectarian violence carried out by extremist factions like ISKP (ISIS-K) against Afghanistan’s Shia community.
The death toll is expected to rise as more victims are identified.
