Taliban to Assess UN Resolution on Afghanistan Based on Islamic Teachings and National Interests

Kokcha News Agency: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has issued a statement regarding the recent United Nations Resolution on Afghanistan. The ministry expressed appreciation for certain aspects of the resolution, including its focus on security, counter-narcotics efforts, and economic growth in Afghanistan. However, it also criticized the resolution for failing to reflect the humanitarian situation in the country and for not incorporating the Taliban’s perspective during its drafting.

The ministry emphasized that the Taliban will thoroughly review the resolution’s demands and recommendations in accordance with Islamic teachings and Afghanistan’s national interests. This comes after the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution urging the Taliban to reverse policies restricting women’s rights and calling for stronger international engagement with Afghanistan.

The resolution, passed with 116 votes in favor, highlights global concerns over human rights in Afghanistan, particularly the Taliban’s bans on female education and employment. It also calls for the dismantling of terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, and emphasizes the importance of economic recovery and humanitarian support. While the U.S. and Israel opposed the resolution, 12 countries, including Russia, China, and Iran, abstained.
