Kazakhstan and Afghanistan Boost Bilateral Relations with Focus on Cooperation and Transit Projects

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Murat Nurtileu visited Kabul and pledged to strengthen economic, political, and regional ties with Afghanistan, emphasizing ongoing cooperation and new initiatives like the Turghundi-Herat railway project.

Kokcha News Agency reports that Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Murat Nurtileu met with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul, marking a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations. During the meeting, both officials discussed advancing economic cooperation, regional opportunities, transit infrastructure, and boosting political understanding between the two nations.

Muttaqi expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s supportive stance towards Afghanistan and highlighted the importance of transforming existing opportunities into long-term, sustainable cooperation. He emphasized that Kazakhstan has historically maintained a constructive approach toward Afghanistan and called for greater collaboration in political and economic spheres.

Nurtileu, on his first official visit to Afghanistan, expressed satisfaction with the improved security situation and conveyed Kazakhstan’s eagerness to expand political, economic, and scientific partnerships. He underscored Kazakhstan’s intention to play a positive role in promoting Afghanistan’s stability, food security, transit networks, and overall development.

In closing, both sides welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the Turghundi-Herat railway project, indicating a shared commitment to continue technical and infrastructural cooperation. They agreed to maintain ongoing dialogue between their technical teams to ensure the project’s success and future collaboration.
