Over 10 Million Afghans Face Hunger Crisis as Thousands Return from Iran Daily
The World Food Programme warns that more than 10 million people in Afghanistan are suffering from food insecurity, while thousands of Afghan families expelled from Iran are arriving back in the country each day, exacerbating the crisis.

Kokcha News Agency reports that the World Food Programme (WFP) announced on Thursday, July 19, that over 10 million Afghans are currently facing severe hunger amid ongoing crises. At the same time, thousands of Afghan families expelled from Iran are returning to Afghanistan daily, adding pressure to already strained resources.
A senior official from WFP, visiting the border areas, described the urgent needs of these returning families, emphasizing they require immediate assistance such as food, clean water, shelter, and healthcare services.
The agency highlights that many returnees are in dire conditions, lacking basic necessities, and depend heavily on humanitarian aid. The growing inflow of families underlines the critical need for coordinated international support to address Afghanistan’s worsening hunger and displacement issues.
