Afghanistan-Pakistan Bilateral Trade Jumps 25% in FY 2024-25

Bilateral trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan surged by 25% in the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching $1.998 billion, driven by a significant increase in Pakistani exports, particularly sugar, which saw a remarkable 4,333% growth.

Kokcha News Agency– Bilateral trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan witnessed a substantial 25% increase in the fiscal year 2024-25, climbing to $1.998 billion from $1.603 billion the previous year, according to a Pakistani official.

The growth was primarily fueled by a 31% rise in Pakistani exports, which totaled $1.391 billion, while imports from Afghanistan grew by 13%, reaching $607 million.

Among Pakistan’s top-performing exports, sugar stood out with an astonishing 4,333% increase, jumping from $5.93 million in FY 2023-24 to $262.77 million.

Other major exports included construction materials, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. However, some products such as rice, eggs, salts, electrical equipment, and footwear experienced year-on-year declines ranging from 17% to 99%.

June 2025 marked a strong finish to the fiscal year, with exports surging 90% year-on-year to $142 million, up from $75 million in June 2024. Imports, however, fell by 29% year-on-year and by 54% compared to May 2025.

Overall, June 2025 bilateral trade stood at $158 million, reflecting a 62% year-on-year increase and a 9% rise month-on-month, indicating sustained momentum in trade relations despite fluctuations in certain import categories.

Analysts credit the trade surge to improved regional connectivity, enhanced trade facilitation, and growing demand for Pakistani goods in Afghan markets.
