UN Supports Small Businesses Across Afghanistan, 97% Led by Women
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has supported 80,000 small businesses across Afghanistan since the Taliban’s takeover in October 2021, with 97% of these businesses led by women, according to a recent report.

Kokcha News Agency – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced in a report that it has supported 80,000 small businesses across Afghanistan since the Taliban assumed power in October 2021. Notably, 97% of these businesses are led by women.
The report highlights that this support has led to the creation of at least 400,000 direct and indirect jobs and has improved the living conditions of approximately 2.7 million people in the country.
In addition to supporting small businesses, UNDP has provided life-saving assistance and social support to 25 million Afghans during the same period. These efforts are aimed at mitigating the effects of the severe economic crisis in Afghanistan.
The international organization, which operates in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan, has focused on strengthening livelihoods and increasing the resilience of the population. Services provided by UNDP include healthcare, educational programs, support for small businesses, and other vital social services.
