Man Sentenced to Death for Blasphemy in Paktika Province, Afghanistan

A man in Paktika province has been sentenced to death by a Taliban court for allegedly insulting the Prophet Muhammad and Islamic sanctities, raising concerns about due process and transparency in the Taliban’s judicial system.

Kokcha News Agency: The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has announced that a man in Paktika province has been sentenced to death for blasphemy. The accused, identified as Abdul Aleem Khamoosh from Janikhel district, was arrested and tried by the Taliban’s primary court.

According to ministry spokesperson Saif-ul-Islam Khyber, the court ruled that Abdul Aleem had insulted Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, a crime deemed a “major sin” under Sharia law. Khyber stated that such actions weaken the morale of the Islamic community and constitute a grave violation of religious values.

The death sentence has sparked concerns among human rights organizations and legal experts, who have criticized the lack of transparency and due process in Taliban judicial proceedings.

International organizations are closely monitoring the Taliban’s justice system, particularly in cases involving capital punishment and allegations of religious dissent.

The death sentence for blasphemy in Paktika province highlights the Taliban’s strict enforcement of Sharia law and raises significant concerns about the fairness and transparency of their judicial process.
