Process Begins to Repatriate Stranded Afghans from the United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates has started the process of repatriating approximately 30 stranded Afghans, with two families already returned to Afghanistan, according to a Reuters report.
Kokcha News Agency: According to a report by Reuters, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has begun repatriating around 30 Afghans who were stranded in the country.
Salim Al-Zaabi, an advisor to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on July 10 that two Afghan families had already been returned to Afghanistan in early July, and that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan had been assured of their safety.
Al-Zaabi also mentioned that the remaining 25 Afghans are scheduled to be repatriated by July 20, though it is unclear whether this has already occurred. He emphasized that the families who were returned did so voluntarily.
However, Reuters, citing two of its sources, reported that UAE officials and the ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the UAE had pressured these Afghan asylum seekers to return to Afghanistan.
