New SIGAR Report Highlights Deteriorating Conditions for Women and Girls in Afghanistan
The U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has accused the caretaker government of stripping Afghan women and girls of their rights over the past four years, as detailed in its latest quarterly report to Congress.

Kokcha News Agency:In its 68th quarterly report to Congress, SIGAR has claimed that the caretaker government in Afghanistan has systematically deprived women and girls of their rights during its nearly four years in power. The report highlights that through the imposition of restrictions, women and girls have effectively been erased from public life in Afghanistan.
SIGAR’s report underscores that the human rights situation in Afghanistan is closely tied to economic and humanitarian crises, and as international aid decreases, women and girls are “disproportionately affected.”
The report, citing the Human Rights Council, also notes that the reduction in aid has led to women losing access to healthcare, food, and support services.
According to a study conducted by UN Women, Afghanistan ranks second to last globally in the index of women’s empowerment and gender equality, just above Yemen.
