People’s Tribunal for Afghan Women Launched

Shaharzad Akbar, former head of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, announced on Thursday, August 9, the establishment of a "People’s Tribunal for Afghan Women" to advocate for justice against the Taliban’s oppressive measures.

Kokcha News Agency: Shaharzad Akbar, former chair of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, has announced the launch of a “People’s Tribunal for Afghan Women.” This initiative aims to seek justice for Afghan women against the Taliban’s repressive policies.

In a statement, the tribunal declared, “A coalition of four Afghan civil society organizations is honored to announce the establishment of the People’s Tribunal for Afghan Women before the Permanent People’s Tribunal.”

The statement further emphasized that the tribunal will push for accountability and justice, urging countries that support human rights to hold the Taliban accountable for their actions.

The tribunal highlighted that the Taliban has continued to suppress women and violate their human rights over the past four years, warning that the international community risks remaining silent in the face of these abuses.

It also expressed concern over the acceptance of Taliban diplomats by Germany and the group’s recognition by Russia, calling these developments alarming.
