German Tourist Margarita Praises Taliban Hospitality During Solo Trip to Afghanistan
Margarita, a 33-year-old German tourist, described her solo trip to Afghanistan this spring as an "amazing experience," claiming the Taliban treated her "like a queen." However, critics argue that such narratives ignore the harsh realities faced by Afghan women under Taliban rule.

Kokcha News Agency: Margarita, a German tourist, shared her experience of traveling solo to Afghanistan this spring, describing it as an “amazing experience” and praising the Taliban for treating her “like a queen.” In an interview with NBC, the European traveler recounted her three-month journey, highlighting the country’s mountainous landscapes, tribal culture, and historical sites.
Tourists like Margarita often post videos of their trips to Afghanistan on social media, showcasing the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. However, many critics argue that these videos present a “false representation” of the harsh realities faced by Afghan women under Taliban rule.
Ursula Nemat, an activist and researcher, criticized the narratives presented by these tourists, stating, “These individuals easily ignore the brutal realities of women’s lives under Taliban rule.”
Since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghan women have faced extensive restrictions. The Taliban have largely banned women from accessing education, employment, travel, and participation in public life.
Earlier, the visit of Whitney Wright, an adult film actress, to Afghanistan and her photos with Taliban members on social media also made headlines. Experts believe that the Taliban are hiding their true nature behind the narratives they promote on social media.
