UN Reports Taliban Executions and Public Floggings in Afghanistan

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported that the Taliban executed four people in public and flogged 234 individuals, including women and a child, over the past three months.

Kokcha News: In its latest quarterly report released on Sunday, August 19, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) revealed that the Taliban executed four people in public in the provinces of Badghis, Nimroz, and Farah.

UNAMA stated that since August 2021, the Taliban have carried out six additional executions in the provinces of Ghazni, Laghman, Farah, Jowzjan, and Paktia.

The report also highlighted that the Taliban have continued to enforce corporal punishment, publicly flogging individuals on a weekly basis. Over the past three months, 234 people, including 185 men, 48 women, and one child, were subjected to public floggings.

UNAMA documented seven cases of killings of former government security personnel during this period. Additionally, the mission reported eight cases of arbitrary arrests and detentions by the Taliban, as well as three cases of torture and mistreatment of former government officials.

The report underscores the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, with widespread use of public executions, floggings, and arbitrary detentions. UNAMA has called on the international community to address these violations and hold the Taliban accountable for their actions.
