Dostum: Freedom for Afghanistan Requires On-the-Ground Struggle, Not Just Words
Abdul Rashid Dostum, former Vice President of Afghanistan, criticized the disunity among anti-Taliban forces and emphasized that freedom cannot be achieved through mere talk but requires coordinated on-the-ground struggle.
Kokcha News Agency reports that during a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, Abdul Rashid Dostum, former Vice President and prominent military leader, expressed concern over the fragmentation of anti-Taliban forces. He stressed that superficial and unplanned efforts would yield no results, stating, “Freedom cannot be achieved through talking.”
Dostum called for a cohesive and strategic on-the-ground struggle to bring about real change in Afghanistan’s current situation. He highlighted the harsh living conditions of the people under Taliban rule and emphasized that the country’s salvation requires strong and unified leadership. According to Dostum, the Supreme Council of Resistance, composed of 17 powerful parties, could serve as an umbrella for uniting all anti-Taliban fronts.
He reflected on past failed attempts at unity and underscored the urgent need for solidarity. Dostum warned that delay and procrastination only benefit the Taliban. He urged opposition leaders to activate the battlefield within Afghanistan through precise planning to effectively resist the Taliban.
Dostum believes that without concrete action, the current situation will not change. Today, August 24, marks the third anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power, which ended over two decades of the Republic in Afghanistan. This day once again highlights the importance of unity and purposeful struggle against the Taliban.
