Red Cross: Over 600,000 Patients Treated in Afghanistan in First Six Months of the Year

Kokcha News Agency – In its six-month report, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced that over 608,000 patients received primary healthcare services in the first half of the year at 47 health centers supported by the organization in Afghanistan. Sixty-four percent of these patients were women.

The ICRC stated that through the donation of medical equipment, support for vaccination programs, nutrition initiatives, and “cash-for-work” projects, it has facilitated access to healthcare and livelihoods for people, especially women and children. Additionally, around half a million people gained access to clean drinking water during this period.

According to the Red Cross, in the first six months of the year, more than 104,000 patients received services at seven rehabilitation centers supported by the organization, and over 15,000 people with disabilities were provided with prosthetic limbs. During the same period, more than 16,000 prisoners received healthcare assistance.

The committee added that in 2024 alone, services such as physiotherapy, wheelchairs, and assistive devices were provided to 734,000 people with disabilities. The Red Cross also reported that 59 cases of disappearances were resolved in the first half of the year, with individuals reunited with their families.
