Taliban Bans Kurtas and Pants in Universities

Kokcha News Agency – On Saturday, 1st Saratan, sources reported that the Taliban’s Ministry of Virtue and Vice has issued a directive prohibiting professors and students from wearing “kurtas with pants” in classrooms across all public and private universities.

The announcement also emphasized that beards and hair must be trimmed according to Taliban standards. Violators will receive a warning for the first offense, and repeated violations will result in “legal action.”

This latest decision adds to a series of restrictive measures imposed on educational institutions since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021. These include gender segregation, mandatory dress codes, and the ban on girls’ education beyond the sixth grade.

Experts warn that such orders not only restrict individual freedoms but could also negatively impact the quality of education and the academic environment. However, the Taliban views these decisions as part of “implementing Islamic values.” Meanwhile, many professors and students, including those at Kabul University, have resorted to wearing traditional shalwar kameez, hats, and growing beards to comply with the new rules.
