Afghan Girl Named Among UN’s 2025 Young Leaders for Sustainable Development Goals
Nila Ebrahimi, a teenage Afghan activist, has been selected as one of the 17 Young Leaders for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2025. The UN Office of Youth announced her inclusion on Friday, recognizing her advocacy for girls' education and empowerment. Ebrahimi, who won the International Children’s Peace Prize last year, pledged to amplify Afghan girls' voices globally during her two-year term.

Nila Ebrahimi, a young Afghan advocate, has been named among the UN’s 2025 cohort of Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Selected from over 33,000 applicants across 150+ countries, the 17 leaders—aged 16 to 33—include founders, social activists, peacebuilders, and entrepreneurs working on gender equality, human rights, climate action, and peace.
In an Instagram post, Ebrahimi committed to collaborating with the UN and its partners to advance the SDGs, emphasizing her focus on empowering Afghan girls through storytelling, international advocacy, and grassroots initiatives.
The UN highlighted her role as the founder and head of “Her Story”, an organization promoting girls’ education. Last year, she won the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize among 165 nominees from 47 countries.
