A powerful explosion rocked the Shahr-e Naw district of Kabul this afternoon, targeting a restaurant and guest house frequented by Chinese nationals. Emergency services have confirmed at least seven fatalities and numerous injuries, including women and a child.

A significant security incident occurred today in the diplomatic enclave of Shahr-e Naw, Kabul. Visuals from the scene depict heavy damage to a multi-story building housing a Chinese restaurant and residence, with smoke billowing from the structure and shattering windows in the vicinity.
The Emergency Hospital in Kabul released a statement confirming that 20 individuals were transported to their surgical center following the blast. Tragically, seven of these victims were dead on arrival. The hospital added that the wounded include four women and one child, indicating the indiscriminate nature of the blast. Medical officials have warned that the death toll could rise as they treat critical patients.
Khalid Zadran, the spokesman for the Kabul Police, confirmed that the explosion took place in the “Flower Street” area of Shahr-e Naw. While he did not immediately specify the nature of the blast, he stated that security forces have cordoned off the area and investigations are underway.
Witnesses on the ground have described the event as a complex attack, alleging it was a suicide bombing where attackers attempted to breach the hotel premises. The incident has sparked outrage among Kabul residents, who have taken to social media to condemn the violence, describing the recurring cycle of explosions and suicide attacks as a painful “legacy of terrorists” that continues to victimize innocent civilians.
