Afrin Celebrates Decree on Kurdish Rights as Army Secures West Euphrates After SDF Withdrawal

Residents of Afrin have taken to the streets to celebrate a historic decree by President Ahmad al-Sharaa guaranteeing Kurdish identity and rights. Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the deployment of army units to areas west of the Euphrates following the withdrawal of the SDF, paving the way for the return of displaced residents.

Celebrations in Afrin In the Aleppo countryside, the city of Afrin is witnessing widespread celebrations. Residents have welcomed the issuance of a special decree by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, which officially guarantees the rights and distinct identity of the Kurds within the Syrian state. This move is seen as a major step toward national reconciliation and social cohesion in the post-conflict era.

Military Developments Simultaneously, the Syrian Ministry of Defense released a statement welcoming the decision of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to withdraw from contact lines west of the Euphrates. The Ministry affirmed that it will closely monitor the full implementation of this withdrawal to ensure all personnel and equipment are relocated to the east of the river.

Restoration of Sovereignty Parallel to the SDF withdrawal, Syrian Arab Army units are deploying into the vacated areas to secure them and enforce state sovereignty. The Ministry highlighted that this deployment is crucial for paving the way for the safe and swift return of residents to their homes and villages, as well as the resumption of state institutions and public services in these regions.
