Amid ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is awaiting official responses from the parties involved regarding a new ceasefire and hostage exchange proposal.
In a statement today, Trump said, “We will find out in the next 24 hours whether Hamas will accept the ceasefire.”
The U.S. President also commented on his recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing skepticism about Putin’s willingness to end the war in Ukraine. “I don’t think Putin wants to stop,” Trump said, adding that the call left him disappointed.
Meanwhile, Hamas issued a written statement regarding the ceasefire proposal, confirming that it is consulting with Palestinian groups about the mediators’ offer for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Hamas stated that it will announce its final decision after completing consultations.
The Hamas statement emphasized the group’s determination to end Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people and ensure the free passage of humanitarian aid. “Hamas will announce its final decision to the mediators and officially declare it after these consultations are completed,” the statement read.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Israeli settlement of Nir Oz near the Gaza border for the first time since October 7, 2023, and reportedly told the families of hostages that he believes an agreement on a ceasefire and hostage exchange in Gaza will be announced soon.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar also stated that Israel is serious about reaching a hostage deal and ceasefire with Hamas, saying, “There are some positive signs. I don’t want to say more at this point, but our goal is to start indirect talks as soon as possible.”
Israeli media reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to announce a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during his meeting with Netanyahu on Monday, July 7.
Trump previously stated that Israel had accepted the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. He noted that U.S. representatives held “long and productive” talks with Israeli officials and that Qatar and Egypt, the mediators in the talks, would present the “final offer” to Hamas.
Palestinian sources indicated that Hamas is leaning toward accepting the ceasefire proposal, though the group has yet to make an official announcement.
