Kokcha News Agency: Germany has summoned China’s Ambassador to Berlin, Deng Hongbo, after the Chinese military allegedly targeted a German aircraft participating in the European Union’s maritime security mission, Aspides, in the Red Sea using a laser.
The German Foreign Ministry announced the move via its official social media platform X, stating that the incident involved a German aircraft being targeted by a laser from the Chinese military.
The ministry emphasized that endangering German personnel and harassing the mission is absolutely unacceptable.
The German aircraft in question was reportedly a leased reconnaissance plane operated by civilian pilots, with between one to four German soldiers on board.
According to Spiegel magazine, the incident occurred as the German aircraft approached a Chinese frigate. The report noted that, contrary to standard procedure, the Chinese ship’s crew did not issue any prior notification via emergency communication channels.
