New Armored Uniform for Ukrainian Soldiers Designed to Withstand Shrapnel

🔹 A new armored uniform for Ukrainian soldiers is designed to withstand shrapnel from drone attacks.

Major Oleh Shyriaiev, one of Ukraine’s most decorated soldiers and a recent recipient of the Hero of Ukraine title, has developed a new armored combat uniform to protect troops from drone attacks. The suit is designed to withstand shrapnel, a growing threat on the battlefield due to the widespread use of drones.

According to The Telegraph, the uniform uses a combination of Kevlar, a heat-resistant synthetic fiber originally used in racing tires, and other materials that absorb the impact of shrapnel. While Kevlar is not as effective as ceramic plates in stopping bullets, it is lighter and provides excellent protection against shrapnel, which has become a primary threat in modern warfare.

Lighter and More Protective
Major Shyriaiev explained that the new uniform aims to provide maximum protection for the body, including reinforced elbow, knee, and ankle protection. Designers are also researching how to create boots with soles resistant to the types of impacts seen on the battlefield.

Full-Body Armor Rarely Used
Armies rarely use full-body armored suits outside of specialized units like bomb disposal teams due to their impact on mobility and the risk of overheating. However, Russian special forces have occasionally been seen wearing protective suits during counter-terrorism raids.

The development of this new uniform highlights the evolving nature of warfare, where drones and shrapnel have become significant threats. By focusing on lightweight, shrapnel-resistant materials, Major Shyriaiev and his team aim to provide Ukrainian soldiers with better protection while maintaining mobility.
