6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Balıkesir, Turkey

Kokcha News Agency: A powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Balıkesir’s Sındırgı district at 19:53 local time, with its epicenter located 11 kilometers deep.

The quake was felt across several provinces, including İzmir, Manisa, Bursa, and İstanbul. Following the main shock, at least 84 aftershocks were recorded, with magnitudes ranging from 2.0 to 4.6.

In Sındırgı, one building collapsed, and rescue teams successfully pulled six people from the rubble. Tragically, an 81-year-old victim lost their life despite rescue efforts. Authorities reported 29 injuries, none of which were life-threatening.

AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) immediately activated the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP), deploying search and rescue teams from neighboring provinces.

Turkish Red Crescent mobilized mobile kitchens to provide hot meals and essential supplies to affected residents and rescue workers.

President Erdoğan extended his condolences to those affected, while government officials urged citizens to avoid damaged buildings and rely on official updates.
