Australia to Officially Recognize Palestine at UN General Assembly in September

Kokcha News Agency: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declared that Australia will formally recognize Palestine as a state during the United Nations General Assembly in September. This decision comes amid growing international condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza, which Albanese described as “beyond the world’s worst fears.”

In a press conference following a cabinet meeting, Albanese emphasized the importance of a two-state solution to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East. “A two-state solution is humanity’s hope to end the conflict, suffering, and hunger in Gaza,” he said.

Albanese also highlighted the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating, “The situation in Gaza has surpassed the world’s worst fears. The Israeli government continues to defy international law and refuses to provide adequate aid, food, and water to desperate people, including children.”

The Australian Prime Minister rejected claims that the decision to recognize Palestine is merely symbolic, asserting, “This decision is a significant contribution to gaining momentum for peace.”

Australia’s move follows similar decisions by countries such as France, Canada, Finland, and Portugal, which have also recognized Palestine in recent months. These developments reflect a growing international consensus on the need for a two-state solution and an end to the violence in Gaza.

The announcement comes as Israel prepares to intensify its occupation of Gaza, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
