Iran’s Foreign Minister: Taliban Have Ensured Security for Shias but Their Rights Have Not Been Respected

*Kokcha News Agency: Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, in an interview with the state-run Iranian news agency IRNA, announced that the Taliban have managed to ensure security for Shias in Afghanistan over the past four years, but their rights have still not been respected.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran has close cooperation with the Taliban, but there is still a long way to go before recognizing the group’s government. He claimed that over the past four years, the security of Iran’s borders has improved, and the Taliban have been able to establish relative stability in Afghanistan.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also stated that the situation regarding Iran’s water rights from Afghanistan’s rivers has been better under the Taliban than in the past, but it has not yet reached the desired level. He added that diplomatic relations between Tehran and the Taliban continue, and “the level of neighborly cooperation is currently acceptable.”

Over the past four years, Iran has had extensive political and economic engagement with the Taliban and has now become Afghanistan’s largest exporter of goods. However, tensions over water rights and border issues have persisted, and forces from both sides have clashed several times at border points.
