Elderly Woman Abducted by Taliban, Shares Harrowing Tale of Captivity
An elderly woman was abducted by the Taliban last week while buying bread. She was thrown into a bus filled with other women and girls, many of whom were screaming or unconscious. After being taken to a detention center, the women were forced to wear prison clothes and were separated into different rooms. The woman was eventually released, but her story sheds light on the ongoing atrocities committed by the Taliban against Afghan women.
An elderly woman was abducted by the Taliban last week while she was on her way to buy bread near a bakery. According to her account, several masked Taliban women suddenly grabbed her and threw her into a bus. Inside the bus, she saw many other women and girls, some screaming, others unconscious. One of the women, who later regained consciousness, told her that she had been abducted along with her daughter after she cried out for help.
The bus eventually arrived at the Pul-e-Charkhi detention center, where the women were forced to wear prison clothes. The elderly women were given large-sized clothing, while the younger women were given tight, thin garments. Some of the girls resisted, screaming and refusing to wear the clothes, but the Taliban forced them to comply. The women were then separated into different rooms.
The woman described the days in captivity as horrifying, with many of the detainees sharing stories of abuse and mistreatment. Out of respect for the women’s dignity, she chose not to share the full details of their ordeal.
After several days, the women were transferred from Pul-e-Charkhi to Badam Bagh and eventually released. Their families had been desperately searching for them, uncertain whether they were alive or dead.
This story is just one example of the atrocities committed by the Taliban against Afghan women. The woman expressed her anger towards the mothers and wives of Taliban members, blaming them for raising and supporting the men who commit these crimes. She argued that these women, like the wives of ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria, should be placed in separate camps for psychological rehabilitation before being reintegrated into society.
