Kokcha News Agency – The Gaza Health Ministry has reported that six Palestinians, including two children, have died of starvation and malnutrition in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of deaths from hunger in Gaza to 393, including 140 children, since October 7, 2023.
The ministry also noted that since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), supported by the United Nations, declared a famine in Gaza on August 22, 115 people, including 25 children, have died due to hunger and malnutrition. The IPC had warned that the famine could spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of September.
Gaza is “Dying of Hunger”
Under Israel’s relentless attacks and strict blockade, which severely restricts the entry of humanitarian aid, the Gaza Strip is experiencing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. The region is grappling with widespread hunger, a lack of water, medicine, medical supplies, and hygiene materials.
Local and international organizations have accused Israel of using “starvation and thirst as weapons.” The Israeli military has destroyed 88% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure and frequently targets areas where displaced Palestinians are sheltering.
Displacement and Humanitarian Crisis
With a population of approximately 2.3 million, nearly 2 million Palestinians have been displaced due to Israeli attacks and expulsion orders. Many have been displaced multiple times, forced to live in makeshift tents or overcrowded schools with inadequate sanitation, leading to the spread of infectious diseases.
The Israeli military continues its daily attacks, bombing tents and civilian shelters where displaced people are taking refuge.
Casualties Since October 7, 2023
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of at least 64,368 Palestinians, with 162,367 others injured.
