KABUL (Kokcha.News) — Polish authorities have arrested an Afghan national who was wanted under a European Arrest Warrant for allegedly attacking Polish soldiers stationed at the Belarus-Poland border. The suspect is accused of repeatedly firing metal pellets from a slingshot and throwing stones at Polish soldiers from Belarusian territory.

The attacks targeted soldiers from the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade in Warsaw-Wesoła, who were serving at the border. The soldiers sustained bodily injuries, and one of their service vehicles was also damaged during the attacks.

The Afghan national, identified as Ahbad K., is also suspected of playing a significant role in the illegal smuggling of migrants from Belarus into Poland. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.

Following a request from the prosecutor, the District Court in Białystok has ordered Ahbad K. to be held in custody for the next three months. The investigation is being conducted by the Military Gendarmerie under the supervision of the Military Affairs Department of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.

In response to the escalating tensions, Poland has closed all border crossings with Belarus, citing violations of Polish airspace and the ongoing Russian-Belarusian military exercises “Zapad-2025”. The suspension of border traffic applies to both entry into Poland and exit to Belarus.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration (MSWiA) stated that the closure is part of enhanced security measures to monitor illegal migration, which is allegedly coordinated by Belarusian authorities. The move aims to improve Poland’s security in the face of potential illegal border crossings by individuals linked to terrorist organizations or involved in sabotage activities on Polish territory.
