Trump Revives ‘Cash on Planes’ Attack Against Obama Amid Growing Iran Conflict

President Trump attacked Barack Obama’s $1.7 billion cash transfer to Iran, claiming it directly funded the regime’s current military aggression

Addressing recent hostilities, Trump described the 2016 settlement as a “ransom” that empowered Tehran, justifying his shift to military action after the total collapse of nuclear negotiations earlier this year.

In a series of high-stakes speeches throughout March 2026, President Donald Trump has intensified his rhetorical assault on the foreign policy legacy of the Obama administration.

Speaking against the backdrop of the “2026 Iran War,” Trump revisited the 2016 delivery of $1.7 billion in physical cash to Tehran, claiming that “Barack Hussein Obama” sent seatless Boeing 757s filled with pallets of money to broker a “dangerous” nuclear deal.

While the $1.7 billion was historically a settlement of a pre-1979 arms debt and accumulated interest, Trump argues that this liquidity directly empowered Iran’s military expansion.

These remarks coincide with recent U.S. and Israeli defensive operations, including the interception of 100 Iranian missiles on March 25. By framing the current conflict as a direct result of past diplomatic “baits,” the administration is solidifying support for its “Peace Through Strength” doctrine in the Middle East.
