Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall Approach; Meteorological Service Warns of Potential Flooding

The national meteorological agency warns of an approaching weather system bringing severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, potentially causing rivers to overflow.

Sadegh Ziaeian, head of the National Center for Forecasting and Crisis Management of Meteorological Hazards, provided details in an interview. “A new weather system will enter from the west late Thursday,” he stated. “Throughout Friday and Saturday, it will be active over the western and northwestern provinces, the Zagros mountainsides, and the southern slopes of the Alborz mountains.”

He added, “The heaviest rainfall is expected on Friday in the provinces of East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Lorestan, Ilam, and Khuzestan. In these areas, downpours will be accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds, creating a high probability of flash floods and rising river levels.”

Ziaeian also mentioned the possibility of hail in susceptible areas, as well as strong winds causing dust storms on the southern slopes of the Alborz mountains and some central regions. He urged citizens to avoid camping near riverbanks and riverbeds and to exercise caution while traveling on roads.

Furthermore, he recommended that farmers take necessary precautions to prevent damage to their crops.
