Kokcha News Agency: On Monday, July 17, 2024, central members and staff of the Baloch Solidarity Committee (BYC), who were earlier detained during peaceful protests, appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta. The court granted a 10-day remand for their continued detention.
The individuals, who are prominent civil and political activists in Balochistan, include:
- Dr. Mah Rang Baloch
- Sabghatullah Shahji
- Bibgir Baloch
- Ghaffar Baloch
- Gulzadi Baloch
- Bibu Baloch
During the court hearing, the police stated that cases had been filed against these individuals on charges related to “terrorism” and that further detention was necessary to complete the investigation. The court accepted this request and issued a 10-day remand order.
These members were initially arrested three months ago under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law. A panel of judges was supposed to review their detention status today, but just hours before the scheduled hearing, the MPO orders were abruptly canceled, and the detainees were transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Court.
The Baloch Solidarity Committee has labeled this move as a “pre-planned scenario,” stating that the purpose of such cases is to silence the legitimate and civil protests of the Baloch people. According to the committee, the complaints and cases against these leaders are “based on lies and politically motivated,” representing a clear example of the systematic suppression of Baloch activists.
