US Approves $100 Million Sale of A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft to Lebanon and HH-60W Helitopters to Norway

Kokcha News Agency reports that the Pentagon has approved a deal valued at approximately $100 million for the potential sale of military aircraft and equipment to Lebanon and Norway. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), under the U.S. Department of Defense, confirmed that the sale includes the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft and related systems to Lebanon, and the HH-60W helicopter systems to Norway.

Following the approval, the agency delivered the necessary certification to Congress, allowing the sales process to proceed. The primary contractor for the Lebanon deal will be Sierra Nevada Corporation, based in Nevada, which specializes in military aircraft and systems. Similarly, Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, based in Connecticut, will be the main contractor for the Norwegian helicopter deal.

The A-29 Super Tucano is a versatile combat aircraft used for counter-insurgency, air interdiction, and reconnaissance missions, enhancing Lebanon’s air capabilities. The HH-60W helicopters are designed for combat search and rescue missions, complementing Norway’s efforts in maritime and defense operations.

This move reflects ongoing efforts by the United States to strengthen allied and partner nation defenses in the Middle East and European regions amid regional tensions.
