60 Dead, 11 Missing in Iraq Shopping Mall Fire; Three Days of Mourning Declared

Kokcha News Agency: A massive fire broke out at a five-story shopping mall in Iraq, resulting in the deaths of 60 people and leaving 11 others missing. The blaze, which occurred at the Hyper Mall in the city of Al-Kut, has prompted the Wasit province to declare three days of mourning.

According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the cause of the fire remains unknown, but Wasit Governor Mohammed al-Miyahi stated that preliminary results from the official investigation will be announced within 48 hours. The governor also confirmed that a lawsuit has been filed against the building owner and the shopping mall.

The fire reportedly started on the first floor of the mall late last night and quickly spread, causing widespread destruction. Ambulances transported the injured to a nearby hospital in Kut, located about 160 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, and continued to operate until 4:00 AM.

The Hyper Mall had only been open for five days before the tragic incident occurred. The fire has left the community in shock, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the blaze while providing support to the victims and their families.

The shopping mall fire in Iraq has resulted in a significant loss of life and has deeply affected the local community. As investigations continue, the focus remains on providing aid to the victims and ensuring such a tragedy does not happen again.
