Kokcha News Agency: Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, held a phone conversation with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, on Tuesday. The two discussed bilateral relations, the ongoing repatriation of 81 Afghan nationals from Germany, and the next steps in the process, according to a statement released by the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Muttaqi described relations with Qatar as “progressing” and expressed gratitude for Doha’s role in facilitating communication between the Taliban and the German government. He also noted that consular services for Afghan refugees in Germany are being provided transparently and that further talks with Berlin will continue.
The acting foreign minister expressed hope that, with support from humanitarian organizations, the returnees would be able to resume a normal life in Afghanistan.
Al-Khulaifi reaffirmed that Afghanistan holds a “special place” in Qatar’s foreign policy and described recent cooperation between Kabul and Berlin as important. He stated that Qatar will continue its supportive role and closely monitor developments related to the return of Afghan migrants.
This development follows Germany’s report of 81 migrants being sent back to Kabul, marking the second group of immigrants repatriated to Afghanistan since August 2021.
Sources also revealed that Germany has agreed to accept two Taliban diplomats to work in Afghanistan’s embassy in Berlin and consulate in Bonn, an agreement that the Taliban has confirmed.
