UN Welcomes France’s Recognition of Palestine

The United Nations has welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, calling it a step toward a two-state solution.

Kokcha News Agency: The United Nations has expressed support for French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France will formally recognize the State of Palestine.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that the UN welcomes all efforts that contribute to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East.

Macron’s decision, which will be officially announced at the UN General Assembly in September, makes France the first Western member of the UN Security Council and the first G7 country to take such a step.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions globally. While Israel has condemned the move, calling it a “slap in the face” to victims of the October 7 attacks, former U.S. President Donald Trump downplayed its significance, stating, “Macron issued a statement. It doesn’t mean anything.”

A high-level international conference on Palestine, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, is scheduled to take place at the UN headquarters in New York from July 28 to 30. The conference aims to explore peaceful solutions to the Palestinian issue, focusing on the two-state framework.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has also criticized the international community for its indifference to the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, calling it a “moral crisis that challenges the global conscience.” He emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire to allow for increased humanitarian operations in Gaza.
