Khalilzad Calls for a Solution to the Durand Line Issue

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has called for a resolution to the Durand Line issue, describing it as an unresolved challenge that requires political will and leadership from both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, has emphasized the need for a solution to the long-standing Durand Line dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan. In an interview with a Pakistani journalist, Khalilzad described the issue as an unresolved challenge that requires strong leadership and political will from both sides.

Khalilzad stressed that resolving such a significant issue not only requires acknowledging the problem but also the wisdom and intellectual capacity to address it decisively. He noted that strong leadership with public support is crucial for achieving this goal.

“Imran Khan could be such a leader in Pakistan,” Khalilzad said. “In Afghanistan, we are still searching for a leader who can do this.”

The Durand Line, established in 1893 by the British government as the border between British India and Afghanistan, is recognized by Pakistan as the official border. However, Afghanistan has never accepted it, leading to ongoing tensions between the two neighbors.
