Refugee Rights Watch: Scenes of Afghan Girls’ Detention in Pakistan Are Shocking

Refugee Rights Watch has condemned the detention of Afghan women and young girls in Pakistan, stating that such actions are not only shocking but also a grave violation of human rights. On Friday, the organization called on the Pakistani government to respect the rights of refugees and treat displaced families with dignity.

The group expressed serious concern over the forced deportation of Afghan women and young girls, warning that it poses a significant threat to their lives and dignity.

Recently, Afghanistan International released a video showing the heartbreaking moments of Afghan women and girls being detained. In the video, a young girl is seen crying and pleading with Pakistani police not to arrest her family, but the officers forcefully load them into a vehicle.

In response to the video, Refugee Rights Watch stated that such treatment is not only unethical but also violates international human rights laws and principles.

The organization highlighted that thousands of Afghan refugees in Pakistan are living under immense pressure. Many of them have the conditions to relocate to third countries, but their hopes have been dashed by detention and deportation, jeopardizing their asylum processes.

Refugee Rights Watch has called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and countries like the United States, Canada, Germany, France, and Australia to take immediate action to rescue these refugees.

The organization emphasized that now is the time for global solidarity, stressing that refugees are not criminals and should be supported rather than persecuted.

In recent weeks, with the suspension of visa extensions for Afghans in Pakistan, the detention and deportation of Afghan refugees have intensified. According to UNHCR, over 300,000 Afghans have been deported from Pakistan in the current year.
