Portugal Joins Countries Recognizing Palestinian State

Portugal has announced that it will recognize the State of Palestine in September, joining a growing list of countries including France, the UK, and Canada.

Kokcha News Agency: Portugal has declared its intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September, aligning itself with other nations such as France, the UK, and Canada. This announcement comes in the wake of similar declarations by these countries, reflecting a broader international shift toward acknowledging Palestinian statehood.

The most recent announcement was made by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who condemned Israel’s actions in the occupied Gaza Strip and stated that Canada would recognize Palestine as a state during the upcoming United Nations (UN) General Assembly in September 2025.

During a press conference, Carney emphasized, “We plan to recognize the State of Palestine at the 80th UN General Assembly in September 2025. We are considering this step because the Palestinian leadership has committed to leading the long-needed reforms.”

Portugal’s decision to recognize Palestine is seen as part of a wider international effort to support Palestinian statehood and push for a resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region.
