Acting Foreign Minister Muttaqi to Visit Islamabad for Bilateral and Regional Security Talks

Following the visits of Pakistan’s foreign and interior ministers to Afghanistan, Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is set to lead a high-level delegation to Islamabad next week to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional security.

Kokcha News Agency reports that Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will lead a high-level delegation to Islamabad on Monday for official talks with senior Pakistani political and military officials, including the country’s Prime Minister. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and address regional security challenges.

Salim Peguir, a political analyst, stated:
“While we have negative issues with Pakistan, we also share many commonalities. If Pakistan acts sincerely and fulfills its commitments, we believe our relations with Pakistan can improve.”

On the other hand, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Shafqat Ali Khan, revealed that Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Amina Baloch met with China’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan to discuss regional security and cooperation.

Shafqat Ali Khan said:
“The Chinese Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister discussed regional cooperation and security challenges. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working together to achieve the shared goal of peace and regional development.”

Moin Gul Samkani, another political analyst, commented:
“Pakistan does not want India to get closer to the Taliban, and the Afghan government also seeks balanced relations in the region. Pakistan is compelled to maintain close ties with China, while the United States restricts it from doing so.”

Muttaqi’s visit comes amid ongoing claims by Pakistan that Afghan soil has been used against it, which has been a major sticking point in bilateral relations over the past four years.

It remains to be seen whether the high-level exchanges between the two countries will lead to a resolution of this issue.
