IOM Collaborates with Afghan Government to Support Returnees with Skills and Jobs

Kokcha News Agency: The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with other international bodies, is actively assessing the skills of Afghan refugees to facilitate their reintegration into the workforce. This initiative was highlighted during a meeting between Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), and IOM Chief of Mission, Mohammad Abdiker, in Kabul.

Abdiker expressed IOM’s commitment to fully cooperate with the Afghan government and provide comprehensive support to refugees. He emphasised the organisation’s efforts to protect refugee rights in host countries and its ongoing work to identify refugees’ skills, create job opportunities, and enhance support mechanisms.

Maulvi Hanafi acknowledged IOM’s humanitarian assistance and assured that the government is managing the increased deportation of Afghan migrants from neighbouring countries. However, he stressed the urgent need for additional resources, including human resources, tents, transportation, and hangars, to accommodate returnees. Hanafi also urged host countries and international organisations to prioritise the protection of refugee rights.
