Elon Musk and Sam Altman Face Off
A new dispute has erupted between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tesla and X owner Elon Musk, with both sides accusing each other of "privilege" violations.

Kokcha News Agency: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tesla and X owner Elon Musk have clashed again on social media. Musk accused Apple of giving ChatGPT preferential treatment in App Store rankings, calling it a “clear antitrust violation,” and announced legal action on behalf of his AI company, xAI. Altman, however, turned the accusation back on Musk. Referencing allegations that the X algorithm is manipulated to favor Musk’s interests, Altman asked Musk if he would sign an affidavit stating that he has not altered the X algorithm to harm competitors or benefit his own companies. Musk, in turn, accused Altman of “lying.”
Longstanding Rivalry Continues:
This spat is the latest chapter in the long-standing rivalry between the two figures. Musk co-founded OpenAI with Altman in 2015 but left in 2018, becoming one of the company’s harshest critics. Musk had initially withdrawn and then restarted a lawsuit against OpenAI in 2024. The latest controversy flared up after OpenAI unveiled its new GPT-5 model and Microsoft announced plans to integrate it into its platforms. Musk claimed that his AI system, “Grok 4 Heavy,” is better than GPT-5, while Altman shared a message focusing on “building great products.”
