Jimmy Kimmel Becomes Italian Citizen Over Concerns About Trump’s Policies

American late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel has revealed that he obtained Italian citizenship due to concerns about the implications of Donald Trump’s presidency, joining other celebrities who have planned to live abroad following Trump’s re-election.

Kokcha News Agency reports that Jimmy Kimmel, the popular American late-night show host, has confirmed in an interview with the podcast “Sarah Silverman” that he obtained Italian citizenship earlier this year due to his worries about the political climate in the U.S. under Donald Trump.

Kimmel stated that the political situation in America is even worse than he had anticipated. The official Italian news agency, ANSA, reported that Kimmel successfully acquired citizenship after proving his Italian ancestry.

Kimmel’s paternal grandfather was from the island of Ischia near Naples, and his maternal grandmother’s family migrated to the U.S. from the town of Candida in the province of Avellino. Kimmel is not the only American celebrity planning to live abroad after Trump’s re-election. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell has moved to Ireland, and Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have decided to live in the U.K.

Kimmel, who has previously criticized the Trump administration on his show, also called for those who have changed their minds about supporting Trump to be welcomed with open arms. He emphasized, “Changing your mind and admitting mistakes is hard, but everyone should be given that opportunity.”
