U.S. State Department Reports Significant Decline in Human Rights Under Taliban Rule

The U.S. State Department, in its annual report, has stated that the Taliban’s adherence to human rights has significantly deteriorated, citing extrajudicial killings, abductions, torture, and the recruitment of children by both the Taliban and ISIS-K.

Kokcha News Agency reports that the U.S. State Department released its annual human rights report on Tuesday, August 21, highlighting a sharp decline in human rights under Taliban rule in 2024.

The report documents ongoing issues such as extrajudicial killings, abductions, torture, and inhumane treatment by the Taliban. It also notes that both the Taliban and ISIS-K have independently recruited children for their activities.

Additionally, the report states that many individuals who collaborated with the previous government have been killed by the Taliban.

The U.S. State Department emphasized that the Taliban has imposed laws based on its interpretation of Islam, severely violating the fundamental rights of women.

This report comes as the Taliban approaches the fourth anniversary of its control over Afghanistan.
