Pakistan Establishes Secure Zones to Restrict Illegal Migrants

Pakistan has designated Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, and Haripur as "Secure Zones," barring undocumented migrants from residing in these areas.

Kokcha News Agency – Pakistani authorities have announced that the cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, and Haripur have been designated as “Secure Zones,” where undocumented migrants will not be permitted to reside. This decision was made during a meeting of a working group at the Capital Development Authority, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the National Database and Registration Authority, the Counter-Terrorism Police, and the Federal Investigation Agency.

The Chief of the Capital Development Authority stated that only foreigners with valid visas will be allowed to stay in Pakistan, and those who violate the rules will face strict action. He added that a unified database will be created to register the addresses of foreign nationals, enabling all security and administrative institutions to exchange this information promptly.

Additionally, the issuance of SIM cards to individuals without visas will be halted, and the buying and selling of property with illegal migrants will be prohibited. These measures are part of the Pakistani government’s recent crackdown on undocumented migrants, particularly Afghans.

In recent months, the detention and deportation of Afghan migrants in Pakistan have intensified, drawing warnings from international organizations about the humanitarian consequences of this policy.
