Reported by Kokcha News Agency:
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission John Ginkel to discuss the recent decision by the U.S. Department of Defense to halt the delivery of certain military supplies previously earmarked for Ukraine. The move comes after a review of U.S. military aid programs, which has raised concerns in Kyiv about the impact on Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
During the meeting, Ukrainian officials expressed gratitude for the support provided by the U.S. so far but stressed that any delay or reduction in military aid, particularly in air defense systems, could embolden Russia.
Ukraine Warns of Consequences
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa stated, “The Ukrainian side emphasized that any delay or postponement in supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities will only encourage the aggressor to continue the war and terror, rather than peace.”
Clarifying the Situation
Presidential Advisor Dmytro Lytvyn told reporters that Kyiv is seeking concrete information from Washington to clarify the situation. “We are trying to clarify the situation. I think everything will become clear in the coming days,” Lytvyn said.
Kremlin Welcomes the Decision
The Kremlin welcomed the U.S. decision to suspend some military aid to Ukraine, stating that reducing arms shipments to Kyiv could lead to a quicker end to the conflict. Kremlin officials suggested that fewer weapons being sent to Ukraine would expedite the resolution of the war.
Painful Decision for Ukraine
Ukrainian MP Fedir Venislavskyi told Reuters that the U.S. decision is “painful” for Ukraine, especially in light of the intensified Russian air attacks in recent weeks.
Background
The U.S. Department of Defense recently conducted a review of its military aid programs, leading to the suspension of certain supplies previously promised to Ukraine. White House Deputy Spokesperson Anna Kelly explained that the decision was made to prioritize U.S. interests, citing the need to maintain military readiness.
Unnamed U.S. officials suggested that the suspension was due to concerns over diminishing stockpiles of certain weapons.
