In an article published today, the Israeli newspaper Maariv addressed the ongoing war in Gaza and the mounting pressures on the Israeli military. After highlighting the significant losses suffered by the Israeli army, the newspaper directly addressed Netanyahu, stating: “You have no right to say ‘I didn’t know.'”
According to a Tuesday report by IRNA, citing Maariv, journalist Avi Ashkenazi wrote on the third page of the newspaper: “Netanyahu, you have no right to say ‘I didn’t know.'”
Ashkenazi pointed out that over 899 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza, along with other operational failures, emphasizing that the only outcome of the current approach is more casualties for the Israeli army.
He criticized Netanyahu’s policies, citing the numerous challenges faced by the military and journalists in Gaza. Ashkenazi wrote: “Yesterday’s incident at Nasser Hospital should be a red flag for the decision-makers in the cabinet.
Does Israel intend to conquer Gaza City at all costs? Have we really given the diplomatic negotiation process a chance? The current situation once again proves that the cabinet has responsibilities beyond political considerations and coalition survival responsibilities it is ignoring.”
The Maariv journalist continued: “Netanyahu is responsible for the soldiers he sends into battle with damaged and demoralized tanks, and he is responsible for the prisoners held by Hamas… even if he doesn’t take his responsibilities seriously. Entering Gaza will lead to many more operational incidents, which could result in the deaths of many Israeli soldiers or create disasters like yesterday.”
Ashkenazi further stated: “The cabinet must stop the war and carefully reconsider the decision to occupy Gaza. The cabinet must address the details of the soldiers’ deteriorating condition after two years of war—a war with no end in sight. The cabinet must review the state of military weapons. These reviews should lead to a reevaluation of the decision to continue the war, explore alternative options, and activate their potential.”
