Kokcha News Agency – Classified documents from the Taliban’s intelligence department (Directorate 069) reveal that the Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Dmitry Zhirnov, is effectively under informal detention. For any movement, including visits to the Turkish Embassy, he must be accompanied by a security escort, and his departure and return times are meticulously recorded.
On August 25, 2025, Ambassador Zhirnov’s visit to the Turkish Embassy was logged as follows:
-*Departure: 9:00 AM
– Return: 2:30 PM
– Purpose of Visit: “Tasosra” (likely related to security consultations or espionage matters).
The Taliban forwarded this report to Directorate 061, indicating that they view every move by the Russian Ambassador as a potential security threat rather than a diplomatic partner.
This level of scrutiny underscores the deteriorating relationship between Moscow and the Taliban.
