Explosion in Pakistan’s Bajaur kills four, including officials and police officers.

Reported by Kokcha News Agency:
A powerful explosion in Pakistan’s Bajaur district, near the Afghan border, has claimed the lives of four people, including two local government officials and two police officers. Senior police officer Waqas Rafiq told AFP that the blast also left 11 people injured.

“A senior government official, a government officer, and two police officers lost their lives, while 11 others were injured,” Rafiq said. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

This explosion occurred just four days after a separate attack in the same region, claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, killed 16 soldiers.

Rising Violence in the Region
According to AFP data, armed groups have killed nearly 300 people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Balochistan since the beginning of 2025.

2024 was one of the deadliest years in Pakistan’s recent history, with over 1,600 people killed in attacks, according to data from the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies.

Escalating Tensions with Afghanistan
Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021, Pakistan has seen a surge in violence and attacks. The Pakistani government has accused the Taliban in Kabul of allowing its territory to be used for attacks against Pakistan, a claim the Taliban denies.
