Microsoft Announces Plans to Cut 9,000 Jobs Globally
Microsoft, cost-cutting measures as part of a restructuring effort, announced it will lay off approximately 9,000 employees worldwide.
This move marks the largest wave of layoffs since early 2023, when the company cut 10,000 jobs following rapid pandemic-driven growth.
To date, Microsoft has laid off around 7,000 employees earlier in the year and in January, and now has a total of 228,000 full-time staff, with layoffs affecting less than 4% of its workforce.
The reductions are spread across various teams and countries, primarily involving management layer streamlining, with about 55% of employees based in the US.
