Putin: West’s Push to Bring Ukraine into NATO Was the Main Reason for the Conflict

Kokcha News Agency – According to a report by TASS, Putin stated that the West’s efforts to draw Ukraine into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were one of the main reasons for the conflict. The Russian President emphasized that this posed a direct threat to Russia’s security.

Putin, speaking at the SCO summit, said that the ongoing attempts by the West to bring Kyiv into NATO were a key factor in the Ukraine conflict. He also pointed out that the crisis was largely triggered by the 2014 coup in Kyiv, which was orchestrated by the West, led by the United States.

The Russian President further explained, “The second reason for the crisis (the Ukraine war) was the West’s persistent efforts to bring Ukraine into NATO. As we have repeatedly stated, this is a direct threat to Russia’s security.”

Putin added that as a result of the 2014 coup, “the political leadership that did not support Ukraine’s accession to NATO was removed.”

The Ukraine war began on February 24, 2022, following the West’s, led by the U.S., disregard for Moscow’s security concerns. Since then, NATO member countries, led by the U.S., have blocked any diplomatic efforts to end the war and have instead provided massive financial and military support to Ukraine.
